YOUR MODERN
WEDDING CEREMONY
Couples are redefining what it means to say “I Do.” No longer satisfied with copy and paste ceremonies or traditions that don’t resonate, they are choosing a ceremony that is deeply personal, beautifully crafted, and unapologetically gets the vibe.
Modern Celebrant-led wedding ceremonies give couples the freedom to tell their story in their own words, to celebrate their love exactly as it feels to them. From heartfelt vows to moments of laughter, every detail is intentional, every emotion genuine. Guests aren’t just spectators—they are part of a living, breathing celebration of connection, joy, and commitment.
More and more couples are embracing this modern approach as it enables them the freedom to say 'I DO' wherever, whenever and whatever time they prefer.
In 2026, saying “I do” is no longer about ticking a box—it’s about celebrating love, fully and beautifully, in the way that only you can.

WHAT MAKES A CELEBRANT WEDDING DIFFERENT?
It's all about you...
The biggest difference between a celebrant ceremony and any other type of wedding you have probably been to is the level of personalisation, and the calm relaxed vibe surrounding the whole wedding day.
A celebrant-led ceremony is described as the new, old way of saying 'I DO'.. I take the structure of something we've all seen before then write your ceremony script completely from scratch and only include the things that are important to the two of you.
On your wedding day, your guests will hear your story: how you met, how you fell in love, and how you came to be standing at the front about to make such deep commitments to one another.
That means that by the time we reach the vows, you and your guests are feeling all of the feels and have experienced the story of your relationship with you. Just another way of making your ceremony all the more meaningful and special.
Your ceremony should be more than just a box to tick… It should be the highlight of your day, the celebration of love that your guests won’t stop raving about!

WHAT CAN WE INCLUDE IN OUR CEREMONY?
Your ceremony should be whatever feels right for you. The options are endless, and I'm here to help you explore.
You might prefer your ceremony to look and feel like a traditional ceremony... with the classic structure, welcome, readings, and vow exchange, only way more personal giving you a beautiful blend of emotion and northern humour. Working with a celebrant means you can host your ceremony anywhere and at any time.
You might decide to make your entrance together. You might decide to write deeply personal commitment vows to one another or if you are nervous or shy, a repeat-after-me style vow exchange (Whatever works for you)
Many couples wish to include their own culture, faith, beliefs, passion and purpose or something completely personal, into the ceremony. The best thing about collaborating with a celebrant, there are no limits.
You can also choose to include symbolic acts in your ceremony. You might think about:
-
Hand-fasting/hand tying
-
Shot ceremony (or champagne tower... or tequila...!)
-
Incorporating your children into the ceremony with a family vow, a reading, a certificate signing, or joining with a symbolic act is very popular with blended families.
-
Including your pets in the ceremony, so far I've worked with horses, dogs and owls.
-
Rose or tree planting
-
Flame throwing (accompanied by dramatic music!)
Anything goes...

WILL OUR WEDDING BE LEGAL?
You will have to do the legal bit separately with a Registrar (England & Wales), which generally costs around £75 if you go for the basic 2+2 'statutory registration' option midweek. Think of it as getting the 'paperwork' out of the way - you don't even have to exchange rings; you can save that for your celebrant ceremony if you wish! You can do the 'legal bit' at any time before or after your main celebration.

THE FEES
I aim to keep the planning, prep and on-the-day process as simple as possible. I offer a no-obligation Zoom chat before you reserve your wedding date, so we can check that we are a good fit for each other.
The Preparation
The unique North East Wedding Celebrant's guide to
'How to plan your wedding ceremony' includes information on writing your own vows, selecting readings, sample readings, alternative rituals, music and seating layouts ... and so much more.
Online or in-person planning meetings in Durham City, where I am based.
The Love Questionnaire, fasten your seatbelts, chill the wine and get that takeaway ordered... time to answer those quirky questions!
The creation of a personal script for your ceremony, and working with you to make any edits or tweaks needed until you are thrilled with it; or many couples request I keep the script a secret until the wedding day (I can only tell the story you provide in the questionnaire - so be careful what you write)
Two weeks before the wedding, a final meeting to confirm the ceremony layout, music, readings and timings.
Wedding Day
I will liaise with your secured suppliers, especially musicians, photographers, videographers and confirm timing and set up details with your venue's wedding coordinator in advance of your wedding.
On your wedding day, I will arrive an hour before the start of your ceremony, giving me time to check that seats are reserved, the musicians have the correct music selected, and ME conducting a heartfelt ceremony which has you and your guests needing tissues to mop up those happy tears. The inclusion of any alternative wedding rituals or symbolic actions (Shots, sand, handfasting or dancing in the aisles- yep, I'm up for that)
I stay until your welcome drinks reception is in full swing, and then quietly leave you to party with your guests.
Your Investment
I specialise in delivering beautifully crafted and deeply personal wedding and commitment ceremonies. Your investment starts from £695 for 2026, (Limited dates now available). I try to give an 'all in' quotation.
